Abstract

The Chilean legislation on consumer protection, Law Nº 19.496, includes actions protecting consumer rights, distinguishing among individual actions, collective actions, and diffused interests. Individual actions in consumer protection, as far as their practice is concerned, are handed over to the competence of police courts, Law Nº 18.287. However, this legislative solution is ineffective at protecting consumer rights integrally, because it has been designed for actions of a necessarily contravening connotation. There are no distinctions between administrative procedures and jurisdictional procedures, and no alternative methods for conflict resolutions have been included
