Abstract
In this article, the causes leading to the political crisis that derived in the September 11, 1973, military uprising as well as the nature of that crisis, which can be related to the causes the Republic underwent in the XIX and XX centuries, are discussed. However, the events previous to the 1973 uprising present unique characteristics.
